Growing up with an abusive father in the religious cult of Jehovah’s Witnesses, I sought a way to escape the constant pain and pressure. At the age of 13, I found alcohol. From my first three beers, I was a blackout drinker, and that feeling of relief was one I clung to for many years. I drank alcoholically through college, through my first marriage, and even through a successful real estate career, all the while masking the deep wounds that needed healing.
