A Holistic Approach Holistic counseling is an approach to emotional and psychological well-being that honors you as a whole person--mind, body, heart, soul and spirit. It recognizes that we cannot always separate our anxiety from our relationships, our depression from our sense of meaning, our trauma from what we feel in our bodies, or our emotional well-being from the way we are living our everyday lives... The Whole You For me, holistic counseling means wanting to understand the whole picture of your life. I want to know not only what is hurting, but what is happening around the hurt. Your Details How are you sleeping? How are you nourishing and caring for your body? Do you enjoy your work? What do your days actually look like? Are you moving your body and spending time in nature? Do you have time for rest, play, creativity, meditation, prayer, or simply being still? Your Relationships I want to understand your relationships. Who loves and supports you? Where do you feel safe enough to be yourself? Where do you feel depleted, unseen, or disconnected? Your Background I want to know where you came from—your childhood, family, relationships, losses, traumas, beliefs, experiences, and the patterns that helped shape you. Your Dreams And I want to know where you are going. What are your goals and dreams? What matters to you? What gives your life meaning? What are you longing for? Who are you becoming? Living beyond the symptomsBeyond the Symptoms People often begin counseling because something hurts or no longer feels manageable. You may be experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma or PTSD, stress, grief, relationship difficulties, codependency, addiction or recovery concerns, emotional dysregulation, low self-esteem, a major life transition, or simply feeling overwhelmed. Those experiences deserve care and attention. But holistic counseling also invites us to become curious about the larger picture. Rather than asking only, “How do we make this symptom go away?” we can begin asking deeper questions: What might be contributing to the way you feel? What does your body need? What does your emotional life need? Are old experiences continuing to influence your present life? Are there patterns that seem to repeat themselves? Are there parts of yourself that have been ignored, criticized, silenced, or left behind? What is happening in your everyday life that helps you feel well—and what is getting in the way? And perhaps most importantly: What kind of life do you actually want to create? Everything is ConnectedMental Health and the Whole Picture What we eat, how we sleep, how we move our bodies, the work we do, the relationships we maintain, the environments in which we live, the information we consume, and the rhythms of our everyday lives can all influence how we feel. So can creativity, nature, meditation, spirituality, recovery, purpose, and our sense of connection. A Broader Perspective That broader perspective is part of how our work extends beyond traditional talk therapy. My holistic practice includes spiritual life coaching, energy healing, meditation coaching, recovery coaching, creativity coaching, vegan lifestyle coaching, yoga therapy, and ecotherapy. What is Relevant for You That doesn't mean every person needs every approach. Holistic does not mean doing everything. It means recognizing that everything is connected. Together, we can pay attention to the parts of your life that are meaningful and relevant to you. A Heart-Centered ApproachCompassion Opens the Door Many of us have learned to approach ourselves through criticism—what we should have done differently, what we need to fix, where we have failed, or all the ways we believe we aren't enough. Often, the way we relate to ourselves has roots in our earliest experiences and relationships. Self-Love An important part of my work with many people involves connecting with the inner child—the younger parts of ourselves that may still carry old fears, wounds, unmet needs, beliefs, or ways of trying to stay safe. Self-Compassion Alongside this, we can work toward cultivating a new loving inner parent: developing an internal relationship with yourself that offers the compassion, protection, encouragement, acceptance, guidance, and care you may have needed then and still need now. Meeting Yourself with Kindness Instead of continuing to meet vulnerable parts of yourself with criticism, shame, abandonment, or judgment, you can gradually learn to meet yourself differently. With kindness. With curiosity. With compassion. And ultimately, with love. Becoming Curious This love and compassion allows us to go deeper. I especially enjoy working with people who want to go deeper. Highly sensitive people. Empaths. Intuitives. Creatives. People in recovery. People on a spiritual path. People experiencing spiritual awakening or profound personal transformation are often drawn to my work. Going Deeper Many of the people who are drawn to my work aren't simply looking for a technique or pill to make an uncomfortable feeling disappear. They want to understand themselves. And sometimes understanding ourselves means becoming curious about what lies beneath the surface. Soul HealingThe Language of the Soul Our inner lives don't always speak to us in straightforward language. Sometimes they speak through dreams, images, metaphors, symbols, creativity, intuition, recurring patterns, or themes that seem to appear again and again in our lives. When it is meaningful to you, counseling can include exploring these experiences and becoming curious about what they may represent for you. Who am I underneath everything I've been taught to be? What is mine, and what have I absorbed from other people? Why do I keep repeating certain patterns? What parts of myself have I pushed aside? What might my dreams, creativity, intuition, or inner life be showing me? What do I believe? What gives my life meaning? What am I here to do? For some people, these questions are psychological. For others, they are emotional, existential, creative, symbolic, or spiritual. Often, they are several of these things at once. There can be room for all of them. All Clients are Different My approach is holistic, integrative, person-centered, and trauma-informed. Depending upon your individual needs, our work may draw from mindfulness, somatic awareness, Internal Family Systems-informed work, CBT-informed approaches, compassion-focused practices, existential and Jungian-informed exploration, positive psychology, creativity, inner-child work, and other person-centered and trauma-focused approaches within the scope of my education, training, and competence. But techniques and approaches are only part of counseling. A Collaborative Approach My approach is gentle, calm, compassionate, and collaborative. I believe there is tremendous value in slowing down, listening carefully, and allowing the process to unfold at a pace that feels manageable for you. This is especially important when working with trauma or painful experiences. Going deeper does not have to mean pushing harder. We can slow down. We can become curious. We can listen. I don't see my role as giving you the answers to your life. I see my role as helping you create enough space to hear yourself more clearly—to understand what you are experiencing, recognize what you need, and discover the answers that feel true and meaningful for you. Re-Member Who You Are Healing can mean understanding why you feel what you feel, developing compassion for the parts of yourself you once rejected, caring for yourself more deeply, creating healthier relationships, reconnecting with creativity and meaning, and becoming increasingly conscious about how you want to spend this life. Sometimes healing is about changing. Sometimes it is about letting go. And sometimes it is about coming home to the person you have always been underneath everything else. You Are Already Whole Because you are more than a symptom to be treated. You are a whole person. I want to understand where you've been, how you're living now, what matters to you, and where you want to go from here. How May I be of service?Boutique-Style Counseling I intentionally work with no more than nine clients each week, allowing me to truly know each person and offer the presence and attention that deeper work deserves. While some clients come for a focused period of healing, others continue working with me through life transitions, personal growth, and spiritual evolution. Some of these relationships have continued for decades, evolving as my clients and their lives evolve. Book Private Sessions If you're looking for additional support along your path, I'm here to be of service. With over 20 years of experience, at The Art of Love Counseling, I provide Holistic Counseling, Spiritual Life Coaching, and Energy Healing, as well as, Retreat Sessions for deeper healing. Explore Professional Training Additionally, I offer personal and professional Training and Mentorship for Clinical and Mental Health Therapists and Counselors, as well as anyone who feels called to become a Spiritual Life Coach, Energy Healer, or Meditation Instructor. Healing Art & Book Many people also find my Healing Artwork and Memoir about overcoming spiritual abuse to be inspiring companions on their own journey of healing, growth, and spiritual awakening. With Gratitude It is a privilege to be invited into another person's life and trusted with their story. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to walk alongside the clients I work with as they heal, grow, discover more of who they are, and create lives that feel increasingly true to themselves.
